I am compelled to make artwork. Working with dyed, painted, and stitched fabric allows me to combine many of the things that continually draw me back to the studio: color, texture, surface design, and the physicality of cloth. I am fascinated by the endless possibilities that emerge when fabrics, marks, and patterns are brought together in compositions guided primarily by intuition. 

I am attracted to unexpected color shifts and gradations, as well as high-contrast color relationships. Through layering, painting, dyeing, and stitching, I build complex surfaces that invite a prolonged view. I am particularly interested in optical effects, including transparency, spatial ambiguity, and the shifting relationship between foreground and background. These visual interactions create movement and tension within the work, allowing forms and colors to appear, recede, and reemerge. 

The horizon line is a recurring presence in my work, reflecting my enduring attraction to bodies of water and the subtle interactions of land, sky, and water. While my work is rooted in aesthetic exploration, it is also often anchored by familiar motifs such as stripes and checkerboards that reference traditional quilt making. These structures provide a framework within which intuition, improvisation, and visual experimentation can unfold. 

I prefer the irregularity of the hand and the unexpected discoveries that arise through the process of making. My current work explores a limited color palette combined with layered texture and symbolic elements, utilizing techniques that both apply and remove paint. I seek to create richly textured surfaces that evoke the shifting boundaries and relationships found in the natural world, particularly where land, sky, and water meet. The resulting works are investigations of color, surface, perception, and place, balancing formal concerns with a deep appreciation for the beauty and complexity of the observed world.
